Polruan... and some exciting house developments!

We started the week a bit blue as our house sale moved into its 10th week. Nick's parents Jane and Dave invited us to spend a couple of days down in Polruan, Cornwall in a holiday cottage they were renting for the week.

Cornwall is such a lovely place. So picturesque. The weather was mixed, we had a couple of hot sunny spells but also some fog and torrential rain.

Then on Tuesday we got the call we had been waiting for... we'd exchanged! And the buyers wanted to complete on Friday! We perked up considerably and drove back to Hampshire on Thursday to get rid of the last few bits from the house. We thought it would only be a car load left - it was more like 2 cars loads to Nick's parents and three car loads to the tip!

So at 12.30 today we closed the door to our first house for the last time, with absolutely no regrets. Our van is currently at the garage having a service and will be ready tomorrow morning, so we'll be moving the stuff out of Nick's parent's and into the van.

Then on Sunday, we can drive off into the sunset. Finally!

 

Nearly There...

Over the last week we have had a massive clear out of the last few bits of furniture and other stuff. We are sleeping on a mattress on the floor and sitting on deckchairs in the living room. 

We have got rid of so much stuff over the past few months. We have only owned a house together for 4 years so you wouldn't think there would be that much accumulated but you would be surprised. And the weird thing is that we don't miss any of the possessions we have got rid of. 

We have been ruthless. If an item of clothing hasn't been worn for a year it goes to charity. All books have gone to charity. Old school books, diaries, and art work has all gone in the recycle bin. 

The aim is to take three suitcases, one art folder, one guitar and one harp to Australia and nothing else. 

And our house seems ridiculously massive with nothing in it. It's only a three bed but it seems so big and empty. We could literally move everything we own now into one room and live there. We have realised that we bought a big house to store possesions we don't even care about. Very silly. 

End of April Update

Apologies for the lack of blog posts this month - predominantly the result of bad weather, the van being pretty much finished, and the lack of offers on the house.

We have been tinkering away on the van - Nick fitted a new stereo and leisure battery and I made some seat organisers to hang on the back of the cab seats. The near constant rain we have been having has also revealed a couple of leaks in the windscreen seal that we had to repair. But on the whole it is pretty much done and ready to go!

The house is still on the market - we have dropped the price and gone with another estate agent to generate more interest and we have had several recent viewings. As much as we can we have been sorting and selling our possessions. 

Not much more to report! If the house takes longer than anticipated to sell then we may get some casual work to tide us over until then. I was feeling a bit glum about the fact that we aren't on the road already but I've got over that now - you have to make the best of what you've got and accept what you can't change!
