Eagerly Awaiting Autumn

We've been a bit slack on the old blogging front lately, with over a month since our last blog post! We take the camera everywhere we go though, so this post is a bit of a mammoth photo catch up of the last month. 

The temperature is FINALLY dropping below 30 degrees on a regular basis, hooray!   

I have managed to find some work (a temporary position in the accounts department in the girls school where my Mum works). With the extra cash coming in we have bought ourselves a new tent! We have ordered a 4m bell tent, similar to the one we had in the UK (but a bit bigger) because we loved our old one so much. Can't wait until it arrives so we can start going camping again!

At the start of the month we visited Kings Park. This is a big park in Perth, with a bit of everything, landscape and botanical gardens, natural bush lands, lakes and picnic areas. Plus a great view over to the city and the Swan river.

We spent the afternoon wandering around the park, and then spent the evening watching Life of Pi at the outdoor cinema.    

We live to the east of the city, near the airport. It's much more rural out here, quieter than the suburbs along the coast. We found this park near our house, with free bbqs and picnic tables, completely empty on a sunny Saturday afternoon.

Perfect for rummaging around for geocaches in the bushes.

We also went to an enjoyable french-themed birthday party.

Last weekend we met up on the south shore of the Swan river with Louise and Nathan, who have just moved to Australia from the UK (Nick went to school with Louise back in Portsmouth).

It was a gorgeous day with wide views of the city and we used the free bbqs which you can find in almost every park here. We stayed and watched the colours change as the Sun set.

You can hire these boats, I really fancy a day out sailing on the Swan!

And a bit of special news I've saved until the end - we are so happy to announce we are expecting our first baby in August. We've been trying for three years to conceive - the operation I had back in September was to remove cysts from my ovaries that I was told were probably causing the problem. The cause of the cysts was diagnosed as endometriosis which is a common cause of infertility. 

Thankfully, the surgery did the trick and we conceived on our first month trying post-surgery and so I've been pregnant the whole time I've been here in Oz. Funnily it's actually 50/50 whether we conceived in the UK or Australia! 

So it's sort of ruined our plans of both working full time for a year to save up for another nomadic adventure. But we think it will be worth it!
