To start with here's some photos from the last week in July which we spent in St Ives, Cornwall with Nick's parents and his brother.
I love St Ives, I think it is my spiritual home. There is just something about the place, it's the wonderful combination of beautiful scenery, historic buildings, cobbled streets, art and crafts everywhere and plenty to eat and drink that does it for me.
This was my third time in St Ives, however, Nick and his family have been coming here (to the same holiday cottage) for 22 years! And of course it was Devon's first time in Cornwall!
It's a fair old trek down to Cornwall, however Devon is getting better and better at long car journeys and with a few stops it wasn't bad at all. We stopped just outside Corfe Mullen and again in Lyme Regis.
The weather was a bit mixed with some sunny days and some more drizzly days, but this didn't stop us doing anything really. It was the start of school holidays and even when the weather was bad the place was pretty busy.
I had my birthday while I was there, and spent several lovely mornings browsing the shops and visiting art galleries all by myself. I went out for an early morning walk one day before all the shops had opened and it was peaceful indeed.
We spent a few days on the beach, which Devon loved. However we couldn't face it every day - Devon has this urge to run far and wide whenever he is presented with an open space, which means you have to constantly follow him around the whole beach, stopping him from running off with other peoples stuff , flinging himself into the waves and trying to scale every set of steps. We tried to convince him to sit still for five minutes to build a sandcastle and he wasn't interested in the slightest.
We did have an enclosed garden in the holiday cottage so we spent a few days just playing inside and out where he couldn't get into too much mischief.
This week in St Ives also marked my last week of unemployment - the week after I started a new part time job (18hrs a week) at a local accountants. Devon has been going to his Grandma's and so far it seems to be working out on all accounts which is brilliant.
We are also looking forward to the rest of August where we have not one, but two long camping weekends planned.
And unbelievably Devon turns two very very soon....
